High School

Grissom High School, Huntsville, AL

Named after Virgil Grissom who was killed in a training mission.

One of the leading schools in the state for academics, sports and the arts

When school opened the cafeteria was not ready so for the whole first year we ate McDonald's. I can't help but look back and laugh.

College

Tennessee Tech

When I was there it was 2nd only to M.I.T. for Engineering. Best party school in nation. No. 2 in small college football.

Yup! That's me. Buying a Ballon at the Homecoming Parade.

College

U.Mary Hardin-Baylor

Yes, they are related. Both started in Independence, TX as a Baptist college. The men's side of the school moved to Waco and combined with Waco College and lost the charter. Years later the women's side moved to Belton, TX with the charter. Judge Baylor is buried at UMHB and his grave would get wrapped in Christmas paper every Christmas.

Holding true to its values U. Mary Hardin - Baylor is still a small university with a strong heritage and moral compass. As a Christian University the Theology Department is second to none and provides a beacon for all to follow. Along with its strong academics it pulls both students and professionals from all fields and corners of the globe. I am honored to say that I am a graduate of such a University.

I did not set the academic world on fire while in high school; all I worried about was track and cross country. I was fortunate to be an active member of both sports all through school and each year we always finished in the top 5 in both sports in the state; one year we even finish first. I was the type that had no business going straight to college out of high school; I was not ready. But back then a male did not have much choice. So I followed both my dad’s and sister’s footsteps and went to TTU where I majored in ping pong at the Baptist Student Union. I then volunteered for the Army which set my career path and I did not even know it at the time. I later went back to college at the UMHB and completed my bachelor degree with emphasize in two fields: Sociology and Recreation. While in college and some time after completing school I worked in the recreation field. But I had been smitten by the Intelligence bug while in the Army and went back to it. I do not think that college is for everyone and I think that can be quit evident by looking at what people major in and what they end up working in. I am one of the fortunate ones that has been able to work their entire professional career in both fields of study that I chose.
